Open the door on a Viking range and you are really looking at two machines that happen to share a frame: a sealed-burner cooktop up top and a heavy convection oven cavity below. They wear out on separate clocks. A cooktop that clicks without end, a burner that lights slow, an oven running thirty degrees shy of its dial — each traces back to a different part, and lumping them together is how a repair goes sideways. We diagnose the range you actually have, one fault at a time.
On the cooktop, the usual suspect is the spark reignition circuit. Viking's sealed brass burners lean on a shared spark module and a clean electrode gap; let grease bridge a cap or moisture wick into a switch, and every burner clicks whether you want a flame or not. We pull and clean the brass caps and heads, check the gap, and test the module rather than swapping parts on a guess. A burner that hisses but won't catch is usually a fouled port or a tired igniter, not a failed gas valve.
The oven cavity is its own conversation. A bake element that glows unevenly, a broiler that quits mid-sear, or a thermostat drifted out of calibration each read differently on a meter. Altitude matters more here than people expect — at Arvada's 5,430 feet the thin Front Range air changes how a gas burner meters fuel, and an orifice sized for sea level can leave you with a lazy yellow flame and soot on the pan.
